National Service Scheme (NSS)
Carmel NSS Unit began in 2019 when thedepartment of pre-university education sanctioned the college a NSS unit. It is funded by the Government and has several activities planned throughout the year for 100 volunteers. Some of the outstanding programmes are
- Blood donation camp is conducted in collaboration with Lions Club and Lions Blood Bank annually in September.
- Team Building camp is a 7-day residential camp at a village where volunteers are involved in cleaning, attending team building and leadership Programmes and conducting free eye checkups for the villagers.
- Cleanliness drives in and around the campus and plogathon to make it a plastic-free campus.
NCC
The National Cadet Corps mixed battalion was sanctioned to Carmel PU College in September 2022. The Cadets are actively involved in activities throughout the year.
- A.N.O and PI (Permanent Instructor) staff conduct parades on Mondays and Thursdays.
- The cadets also observe special days like National Unity Day, National festivals, Army Day, and Kargil Divas.
- Cadets get an opportunity to attend special camps.
ECO CLUB
Carmel Eco Club aims to empower students to take up meaningful environmental based activities and projects.
- It motivates students to keep their surroundings green and clean by planting saplings.
- Promotes water conservation by optimising water use by installing special taps.
- Organisers seminars and visits to Pollution Control Board.
- Motivates students to imbibe habits and lifestyle towards minimum waste generation and learn about segregation at source.
- They maintain a kitchen garden and vermicomposting pit.
The overarching aim of education is the holistic development of young minds. The changes in society, like urbanisation, technological advancement and the effects of social media, have led to the need for institutions that should not only nurture cognitive development but for fostering their affective and psycho-motor abilities, which would equip them for life.
