GREEN CAMPUS
A sustainable environment on the College campus impacts students’ lives positively. Students studying in active green campuses have better retention capacity, environmental behaviour, solidarity etc. Carmel College has its aesthetic beauty. Efforts have been made to ensure our campus always develops as a campus with green and sustainable concepts, mainly focusing on water conservation, solid waste management, leaf mulching, vermicomposting and planting saplings.
Green Campus Initiatives
- Student Exchange and Recycling Program(SERP) is an effective and inventive programme to engage students in embracing the habit of recycling. The event encourages the student to collect dry waste available at home and exchange them in return for new stationery.
- Carmel Cleanliness Campaign – CCC _ Students regularly, in rotation clean up the campus. Students are educated to drop liter in dustbins kept in designated areas.
- Waste Audit (WA) Conducting a waste audit is also eye-opening in determining what a culture deems disposable and what is made to be disposable. Every Friday a group of students form eco club are involved in monitoring segregation of waste at source and recycling the waste.
- Solve Ninjas, a programme with reap benefits, encouraged students to engage in problem-solving. Four waterless urinals were installed at the end of the 740 hours of problem-solving. They helped us save 37,800 litres of water, and 876 kgs of waste were diverted from landfill.
- Solid Waste Management Mechanism A study of primary solid waste management mechanisms is being conducted in collaboration with WOW (Well being out of waste), an ITC initiative. The institution has allocated spare for storing paper waste, which is disposed of responsibly
